Namaka Resort Kamala

The restaurant and breakfast were the letdown. Nothing seemed fresh, there was hardly any choice at breakfast, and we couldn’t eat at the hotel at all. Otherwise, the hotel itself was nice. It’s a little older, but our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, with a nice view. The staff were kind, and special thanks to the reception manager for being so understanding. We stayed in December, and the weather was good. We might come back someday.

The view was absolutely amazing, and the place is breezy and windy. We stayed in the last building at the back, though, and could hear the forest sounds at night. The air conditioning compressor was also visible right by the room entrance. Management should cover it, since it really spoils the resort’s look. Our room was average, and the bed and pillow weren’t the most comfortable. Getting up to our room on the high hills could be a struggle when the buggy service was busy, though walking down to the lobby, pool, and restaurant was fine. The bidet pressure was quite funny, and you have to climb into the bath to shower. With the location and that setup, it’s not suitable for people with walking disabilities. The main Kamala beach is about 10 minutes away, and the resort runs scheduled drop-offs and pick-ups there. There’s also a small, quiet beach below the hotel, but you have to walk down and back up, with no transport provided for it. The staff were friendly, and aside from that amazing view, I’d call this an okay resort, around 4.5 stars.

It’s a good value resort in a quiet spot, but there isn’t much in the way of restaurants or amenities nearby, so having a car is a good idea. Parking was easy to find and free. Since it’s perched on a hill, getting to our room meant carrying luggage up stairs, with no lift. The pool is large and has great views, though you don’t get a direct sunset view. There’s also a pool bar, which is a nice addition. Breakfast was standard, with some local Thai and international choices. The rooms are spacious, but the floors weren’t clean enough and we had to wear slippers inside. A few times, cleaners also left dirty towels and cutlery behind. For the price, it’s still a nice resort.

The restaurant staff were rude, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The good part seems to be just the front area shown in the website pictures. The room lobby was dirty and felt like a hostel or lodge, with open drains and AC outlets right outside the room door. There’s no lift, even to the second floor, and the rooms we saw were twin-bed only. The website didn’t mention that. With this budget, you could definitely get a good room elsewhere.
