The hotel itself was great. Still, there was an intimidating bald man with a barcode on his head hanging around all the time. I told the staff, but nothing seemed to happen.

After leaving Vijit Bungalows, we found Himmapan Resort through its manager, Tom. Our room was quiet, comfortable, clean, and spacious. Every so often we heard geckos or fruit falling onto the roof, but being surrounded by jungle made the stay unforgettable. A wonderful place to stay in Kho Phayam, and one we'd recommend.

Halfway down the island, Himmapan makes a handy shaded spot for travellers passing through who want a drink or a break. The bungalows are airy, roomy, and clean, and there's a lovely laid-back bar area. The host goes out of his way to make sure guests have a good stay, and makes excellent cocktails too.

The rooms have a unique, roomy loft feel, arranged over two levels. There are lots of places to relax on different levels in the tropical garden, which is full of native plants, plus a nice bar and pool. If you don't need the beach right outside and would enjoy an oasis feel with super nice hosts, this place is for you. Restaurants and Long Beach are just around the corner.

Each room is in its own building, with lots of space. There's no AC, but the windows on both sides of the raised loft-style beds kept things comfortable enough for sleeping. I could rent a scooter at the hotel. The pool was a bit green, so we didn't swim, but it wasn't a big deal.
