Welcome Inn Villa

I lived here for nearly three years. When I moved in, the bungalow had bloodstained mattresses and clearly hadn’t been painted recently. The electricity and water kept cutting out, often for hours. The road is noisy, with lots of children crying and screaming. Cats are everywhere, doing their business in the gardens and yowling through the night. In May, a new law prohibited owners from charging more than the government rate for electricity. The owner then unilaterally added a communal charge for internet, the swimming pool and chemicals, grounds cleaning, rubbish collection, and other things to make up for it. I wasn’t given or asked to sign a new contract. He just imposed the charge. Once, I paid the owner some money on behalf of another tenant who was away. That tenant accidentally paid as well. I asked the owner repeatedly for a refund, but he ignored me and kept the money. I always paid my rent regularly and on time, yet the owner accused me of not paying while standing outside on the road in front of other tenants. It was humiliating and untrue. He accused me again about a month later, even though I’d paid early and told him so. He didn’t apologize. When I left, he deducted 8000thb from my deposit, including 100thb for a light bulb. He charged me, and some but not all tenants, for repainting, though no painting was done. I left the house as clean as when I arrived, but he charged me for cleaning. On my final bill, he used the old excessive electricity rate because I “did not sign the contract,” while also charging the new communal fee. He wanted the money twice. He lied and tried to avoid returning my deposit, threatening to charge me for the room after I’d left unless I agreed to his illegal behavior. He was a rude, offensive, deeply unpleasant landlord who pays his workers 350/400thb per day for a 7 day week. Disgraceful.
