Yayei Homestay

It felt like visiting my auntie’s house. Everyone welcomed me warmly and took good care of me. I left my bike outside in the rain, and a young guy noticed it would keep raining through the night, so he used his raincoat to cover my canvas bags. That kind of thoughtfulness is something I’ve never had at a five-star hotel. I recommend this place. If your vehicle gets dirty on an enduro ride, there’s a spot where you can wash it yourself, and it’s free.

It was so peaceful and comfortable that I got a great night's sleep. This place at the end of the railway is a real gem, simple but special. Grandma cooks the best food I had in Thailand, and the prices are incredible. Everything was excellent, especially the green curry. If you stay a few nights, visit the waterfalls, Hellfire Pass, and hot springs. Drivers are pricey, so try the bus, it runs often.

The beds are hard, so keep that in mind if you’re fussy about them. We’d still stay again for two or three nights because it’s such an easy base for visiting Hellfire Pass independently by local bus, without the stress of getting to and from Kanchanaburi by train in one day. The local Red bus makes this a great spot for a day trip to Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre. Staff were friendly and it seemed like a big family business. They picked us up from the train station for free, which was great since our train arrived after dark at 1830. Dinner is available until 8pm, and cold beer is good value. The place was clean, with two complimentary bottles of water each day. Locals often stop at the shop to buy things, and sitting in the outdoor restaurant is a fun way to watch Thai life go by.

A simple, genuine, budget-friendly place, especially handy for the Nam Tok railway, Sai Yok Noi waterfall, and hellfire pass. Yayei Homestay is cozy and family-run, with a warm welcome, clean comfortable rooms, and a kind, helpful host. It’s quiet and surrounded by nature, a lovely break from the city.
