Baanpeangpor Hostel

There’s instant coffee and some biscuits in the morning, and the hostel itself is clean, with trees around it and clean toilets. My room had two single beds and a wall-mounted fan. It’s a decent option for a hostel room. Walking Street, with its crowds and food, is within walking distance, though the immigration area is quite a way off. There are lots of mosquitoes, so bring spray repellent. Lotion alone isn’t enough.

The barrels look appealing, and the reception’s lounge area is a nice place to relax in the big beanbags. We booked ahead and stayed four nights, our first hostel on Koh Lipe. The separate men’s and women’s bathrooms were very clean, but had only cold water. The heat inside the barrels was miserable: with outside temperatures around 30 degrees and just a fan, sleeping was a nightmare, and it got even hotter during the day. Finding the hostel was difficult, even locals gave us conflicting directions. It’s near Rock Stones Bar in the center of the island. There’s also a bar nearby that plays music with heavy bass until around 2pm.

The staff were all smiles and really friendly. This is a cute, stylish place with small round huts, and the shared shower and toilet are clean and look cool. I especially liked the cozy common area, where it’s easy to spend hours relaxing. It’s a simple, easy place to stay, and I’d recommend it for that. Apparently, the walk-in rate is cheaper than Agoda.

The place is really cute, but the bar right next door plays music so loudly until 2am that it feels like it’s in your room. Sleeping before then is almost impossible. If you’re here to party, that may work out, but after a long day at the beach or doing activities, good luck. By the end of my four nights, I was so tired I crashed for at least an hour or two every afternoon. I definitely wouldn’t recommend staying here.
