Seahorse Lipe Hostel

I couldn't get a proper night's sleep during any of my four nights. People came and went at all hours, watched shows on their phones, and left alarms ringing when they didn't wake up. There's no night reception, and rooms aren't cleaned during a stay. The bathrooms are cleaned just once a day. The listing calls these rooms private, but they're really a corridor with 16 beds divided by partitions, and there's no wall up to the ceiling. The title and photos give a misleading impression, while the semi-private detail is tucked into the last photo. The rooms are also listed as 0.5 and look larger than they are, but they're very small. This felt like a scam. If I'd known what it was really like, I'd have spent a bit more for a real hotel or stayed at a hostel that was honest about being one.

Cheap, and the staff are friendly and helpful. But the shared rooms are far too noisy. The doors bang, and there's a loud electronic sound when you open one or don't shut it properly. I couldn't rest well here.

The owners were welcoming and helpful, which made my stay nicer. The place is great value, with comfortable private rooms kept cool by a shared air conditioner in the little hallway. You can hear people in nearby rooms, so bring headphones, though the guests during my stay were considerate and kept noise down. The showers and toilets are plentiful and very clean. It's also an easy walk to either side of the island.

The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. The owner and location were excellent, and the shared bathrooms were decent. The water worked perfectly, although toilet paper was often missing. The big issue is that the “private bedroom” doesn't feel private at all. You hear other guests talking, snoring, farting, and kissing, like everyone's in one room. We stayed four nights. The first was okay, but I couldn't sleep the next two, even with earplugs. I ended up buying sleeping pills for the last night so I could finally get some rest.
