The towels dried quickly but didn't soak up water very well. Mosquitoes were an issue, though it seems to be common across Songkhla, so I wouldn't let that put you off. I hope staff can spray the rooms with mosquito repellent in the evening. This cozy hostel is right in Songkhla Old Town, and it's generally quiet once the town settles down at night. The air conditioning didn't work on our first night, but they moved us to another room.

The staff were welcoming and kind, and the cats were cute. The shared bathroom was smelly and mouldy, and the place felt unhygienic and full of mosquitoes. They came through noticeable gaps in the bathroom doors at night and into the bedrooms. I swatted dozens and couldn't sleep. It needs a deep clean, and feels more run-down than rustic. The photos from eight months ago don't show how squalid it is now.

The bedrooms were clean and the place felt secure, with restaurants nearby. It's a beautiful hostel in a building that's about 200 years old, right in the old town. The bathrooms could use some renovation, but overall it offers very good value for the money.

Right in the beautiful old town, Yu Hostel puts local, delicious, affordable food and stylish cafes within easy reach. The hostel feels warm and cozy, with plenty of shared space to relax, and larger rooms that work well for groups as well as solo travelers. The reception was friendly, and the resident cats Cappuccino, Kopi and Pe greeted us. I love the old town and would gladly stay here again on my next visit.

They even lent me spare slippers and an umbrella, and were helpful and cooperative throughout. The staff and service were great. The air conditioning worked great, and the location was excellent. There were three or four cute, harmless cats. I'll come back next time.
