S.22 Hotel Suratthani

I stayed one night in a standard room. It was more or less clean and fine, nothing special. Breakfast had lots of Thai dishes, but not many Western choices. Toast was the only pastry.

The room and bathroom in Building B's Superior Double were both spacious, and the parking lot is a big plus. The location is easy to get in and out of, with convenience stores and restaurants along the same street. I chose this hotel at random for my first visit to downtown Surat Thani, and it turned out to be a good pick. The hotel isn't old, it's fairly clean, and the staff, housekeeping, and security were all fine. The main issue was the noise. The rooms don't block sound well, so in the morning I could hear people going to breakfast, checking out, rolling suitcases, opening doors, and even flushing toilets while I was trying to sleep. The included breakfast was decent for the price, though nothing special. The interior could use some thought. There were plenty of power outlets, but their placement wasn't very practical. The desk under the TV wasn't convenient for laptop work, with no outlet nearby, a low chair, and an unusually high desk. Still, for the price, it was a solid stay.

We left early in the morning and never got our 300 baht key deposit back. The hotel also hasn't replied to our messages. Having to pay a deposit for a key already seemed strange. Watch out, we feel the staff scammed us.

The room was clean and spacious for one person, and the staff were courteous. I ordered food through room service and it arrived hot, wrapped in cling film. The bed was hard, and I could hear people talking as they passed my door in the corridor. It felt about 100 baht overpriced. I'd still recommend it if you're passing through the city before taking a ferry to the nearby islands.
