Baan Khaolak Beach Resort

The food was bland, the buffet choices limited, and the beach was dirty, with construction making part of it unusable. There was also steady noise from a new hotel project next door. The property felt neglected and run-down, and even some public toilet locks didn’t work properly. Our room door was faulty, and we spent hours going back and forth to reception at least five times, accompanied by staff who seemed to know about the problem already. They were dismissive and didn’t apologize or fix it. Although the hotel knew about the issue, they first said no other rooms were available. We only got moved two days later, after much of our holiday had been lost. We had to pack and unpack again, and the only offer was a dinner coupon, which we turned down. At nearly 300€ a night, that felt insulting. Housekeeping was another problem. Dirty sheets stayed on the bed even after we asked for fresh ones, towels weren’t replaced when requested, and other requests were ignored. For a hotel at this price, that lack of basic care was hard to accept. Baan Khaolak Beach Resort was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. It felt like a budget place charging luxury rates. As a student, I stayed in hostels that were cleaner and better run. If you care about your money, time or peace of mind, avoid it. If it’s your only option, I’d reconsider the trip.

We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this relaxed hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, set among the palm trees, and the staff were excellent. The beach is the one small drawback. Erosion has left the stretch outside the property quite narrow, and the neighbouring property was building a retaining wall there. That construction hadn’t been mentioned when I booked.

The breakfast was delicious, and the rooms were good. There’s a large pool with things like surfboards, and the beach is only a minute’s walk away. The security guard was really laid-back. Around the pathways, the greenery is full of lizards and geckos. I don’t remember much else in detail. Also, if you’re into adventure stories and deep lore, I recommend the comic book Alone (Seuls) by Vehlmann & Gazzotti. I added a small preview as images.

It’s a small, green resort and the beach is lovely, but it’s hard to get to if you’re older or have a disability. Customer service was basically absent. We’d booked through Agoda and went to reception when we wanted to stay longer. They said they were fully booked, even though we showed them we could still make an online booking. Their extension offer was over 40% more than the same dates through outside booking sites, so we booked online instead and were able to extend.
