Khaolak Inn

I arrived backpacking alone and in a good mood, but the owner didn't greet me. When I gave my name, he replied in a very unfriendly way, “800 baht.” I wasn't sure whether I'd paid online already, so I paused. He kept insisting on the amount, and when I asked why he was speaking to me so rudely, he shouted that he wasn't being unfriendly and had done nothing wrong. He said I could leave because he didn't need me as a guest. I felt uncomfortable and a little scared, thinking I might have unknowingly offended him culturally, so I apologized. He said “okay,” then stood up and began shouting even louder, telling me again to leave. I walked out crying. I've never had an experience like it. I can't understand the good reviews. Please don't book here. Spend a few extra euros and stay somewhere else.

The rooms at Khaolak INN were spacious, clean, and had everything we needed. We were comfortable there for our two nights, and the location made getting around easy, with shops, pharmacies, restaurants, and the main bus stops just a few meters away. Mr. Chang made the place especially memorable. He's funny, talkative, and warm, always ready with a joke or a story. We booked our Similan Islands day trip through the accommodation at a very reasonable price. Laundry was 60 baht per kilo, and our clothes came back the next day washed, ironed, and neatly folded. There are Thai massages available at affordable prices too. When we left, Mr. Chang gave us helpful tips for making the next part of our journey easier, which was a really thoughtful touch. We'd happily return.

Right in the center of Khao Lak, so you can walk just about anywhere from the hotel. Mr. Chang, the owner, is resourceful and helpful. Just be ready for his jokes, haha.

Mr Chang is a big help, and on our departure day he even helped us get to the bus and buy a ticket. His humor is pretty witty, though I feel some people take it the wrong way when he means well. He also helped relieve tension in my back like a chiropractor, and there's a massage service if you'd rather have that. We stayed for two nights to visit the Similan Islands. The hotel can arrange inexpensive tours, even the day before, and laundry is available for 60 baht per kilo.
