Leelawadee Resort Khaolak

I was looking for a budget stay in Khao Lak, and the reviews made this place sound welcoming. For what I paid, I’d definitely come back. The resort owner is an amazing guy, and his two staff members take good care of the place. It’s very laid-back, with little noise, lots of nature, and a pool to relax beside. There’s plenty to see and do within 50 kilometres. After visiting the Tsunami museum and learning what this part of Thailand went through 21 years ago, it’ll always be in my heart. I highly recommend the resort.

It’s quiet here, set back from the main road, with hills and jungle behind you. The beach is a bit of a walk, and the two town centres are about equally far away, but we’re happy to walk, so that was fine. Our room was clean and comfy beside a nice pool. Breakfast was good too, with eggs made how you like them, fresh bread and fruit, juice, tea, and coffee.

The resort is in a good location and was nice and quiet, but I couldn’t wait to leave and wouldn’t stay again. Our bungalow was very run down and clearly needed maintenance. There were more than 30 mosquitoes in the bathroom, with husks along the ceiling. Maybe they were breeding because the bidet was leaking and leaving standing water, or because the shower left the room soaked. Either way, cleanliness and upkeep were poor. No pool or beach towels were provided, so bring your own. The A/C was terrible. I even thought about leaving after the first night, though we’d only booked two.

The pool was great and clean, and the place is a peaceful oasis among lots of greenery. In my room, the air-conditioning was a little noisy, and the shower water was either hot or cold, with no way to get it in between. I think one night is okay.
