A nice swimming pool and a spot near the bus station make this hotel handy when you need to rest after a long journey.

I spent a week at JP Grand Hotel in Trat and would recommend it to a friend. The price was very reasonable, the rooms were clean, the location was good, and the staff were courteous and friendly. There were two downsides. The sinks didn’t have hot water for shaving, though I understand that’s not unusual in Thai hotels. Also, if you want a good breakfast, you’re better off going out. The buffet eggs were cold and the coffee weak. The adjoining cafe had a varied menu and attractive prices.

We really enjoyed our stay at J.P. Grand Hotel, and I’m happy to give it five stars. The staff were especially helpful when our 2-year-old daughter made a mess in the room. They went out of their way to clean it up. They also offered us a complimentary late check-out that worked perfectly with our afternoon bus departure. At arrival, attentive staff took our luggage straight to the room, and check-in and check-out were easy. The pool was well maintained, and the air conditioning worked reliably to keep the room comfortable. Guests can smoke on the room balconies, though that didn’t affect me. We booked breakfast with the room. It was good, but the choices were limited, which didn’t matter much for a one-night stay. There were a couple of drawbacks, including poor drainage and no security box in the room, but they didn’t take much away from our positive experience.

The location worked especially well for me because it’s close to Bangkok Hospital. There’s a large lotus supermarket across the road, with restaurants and small market stalls nearby. During the month we visited, there was also a wonderful market opposite the hotel with lots of food, clothes stalls, and a fair for kids. The hotel is lovely and clean, and the staff are lovely too. Our balcony looked over the pool. The bed was very comfortable, and the spacious shower had great water pressure.

We were there as a family and wouldn’t recommend it. The noise was incredible, with car traffic constantly and sirens all night long. I went down in the morning for coffee, but the coffee shop was closed even though they serve breakfast. The coffee they did offer was disgusting, and they won’t open the coffee shop before 10 o’clock. I also tried to take a normal shower, but the water was ice cold. Why does everybody give this place good reviews? It isn’t four stars to me, I’d give it two at most.
