The Outside Inn

I've eaten and stayed here lots of times. The rooms feel comfortable and homey rather than hi-so, and the place has a great vibe. The food is amazing, especially the Mexican dishes. Service is always good, and Aimmy, who seems to be managing it now that Brent sold the place, is wonderful. I finally tried the hamburger I'd been promising myself: the Outside Inn burger with caramelised onion and bacon. It was super. Don't turn yourself inside out searching for a room or a meal, turn yourself outside inn. Feb 2025: After being away for a few years, I got reacquainted with the innsides of the place. The room was homey, with a very comfortable bed, and the new owner has freshened things up. Dinner was great, especially the blue cheese burger, and the fries were excellent. Food prices are farang, but that's to be expected. Highly recommended. Sometimes there are now 1 or 2 parking places too.

There's a restaurant, plus a garden where you can sit and relax over food and good drinks. If you're not setting off very early, they can serve food before you leave. The place closes at 9 PM, but the gate stays open and the room key is available at the door, so arriving later is fine. My room was large with simple furnishings. The toilet and shower were in two separate, smaller rooms. Parking is on the street outside the hotel.

This was a charming place, with a large, nicely decorated room and a layout that felt more Airbnb than hotel. We rented scooters there for a day and ate Mexican food at the restaurant, which was very delicious, just as other reviews say. There was live music during our stay too. When we needed a laundromat, the owner went out of her way to help, giving us a lift and then dropping us at a Japanese restaurant. The one downside is that you're on your own for cleaning the room. Still, for what it costs, that's fair enough.

Slatko and his family made us feel like friends and regulars as soon as we arrived. We were two couples showing friends around Ubon, and we stayed for two nights on a quiet street not far from the city center. The rooms were clean and a decent size, with a big comfortable bed and everything we needed. Nothing hi-so, but good value. We had a comfortable, enjoyable stay and recommend it, especially if you like being around nice people. The staff were attentive, polite, and fun to chat with throughout. The food and drinks were first class and fairly priced, with lots of good choices on the menu. Between the four of us we tried several Mexican and Thai meals, and loved every one, not a morsel left. The drinks promotions were welcome, as were the complimentary nachos.
