Whereder Poshtel - Hostel

The hostel itself is extremely nice, with thoughtful design, a decent location, friendly staff, and comfortable beds. But my night there was something else. After hiking all day, I got into bed at 10:30 pm and put on season five of Dexter. At 4 am, noise from the man in the bunk below woke me up. It sounded like repeated friction, then got louder, with grunting and occasional moaning. I eventually realized the middle-aged guy was, well, taking care of himself. I spent the rest of the night on the common-room sofa, wondering about my life choices. This came after another hostel in udon, where my roommate called himself a male “entertainer.” He was interesting enough until bedtime, when he played music and video-called customers all night. I've decided udon just isn't a place for hostels, given the foreign guests this city seems to attract and whether they're suited to shared living.

If you book through an online platform, I'd strongly recommend calling the hotel to confirm the reservation. You could otherwise arrive and be told there are no rooms available. The hotel doesn't contact guests in advance.

The hostel is small, clean, and good, with friendly, nice staff. There's good-quality coffee on the ground floor. Breakfast is the same single set each day, though it would be nice to have more options for anyone staying more than two nights.

Update (24/8/2025): After getting in touch with Agoda and Whereder Poshtel, it seems Agoda's recommendation algorithm caused the problem, so I've changed my rating to four stars for now. Agoda showed Whereder Poshtel as a top-rated hotel in Vientiane, Laos, but it's actually in Udon Thani, Thailand. I never went to Thailand or stayed at this hotel. I noticed the mistake right after booking and tried to cancel within minutes. I believe misleading Agoda filters caused it. I messaged the property on Agoda, emailed, and called, but got no response. Then Agoda showed me as both checked in and checked out, which seemed like an attempt to refuse a refund by making it look as if I'd stayed. I have screenshots. At first, I considered that outright fraud and warned people away, because I felt ignored and thought they were trying to take my money.
