Near Train Guesthouse

After weeks in hotels in Vietnam and Cambodia, staying in this homestay felt like being back at home. The people were really friendly, and there was free tea and coffee. The rooms were basic but comfortable, and the old house has plenty of character. There are shops and places to eat nearby, plus a nice little night market a few minutes' walk away on the main road. The town centre is farther out. It can be hard to locate because there's no sign. I asked at the house on the corner by the main street and they directed me to the guesthouse. I paid more by turning up in person, since booking online seems cheaper. It was still the best place I'd stayed in a long time because I felt at home. There were quite a few mosquitoes inside, so bring repellent.

The house in the photo for near train guest house is the owners' newer block. The rooms they rent out are in an older building behind it. Some foreigners might enjoy the old Isaan-style house, but I grew up in a village with similar homes and didn't find it especially exciting. They first offered 4,000 baht a month. I tried to negotiate to 3,000 because the bathroom was outside, and they said they couldn't go below 6,000. I found a modern fan room with its own bathroom for 2,500 baht instead.

Good value, and the place outside is nice. It was cheap and clean, I slept well, and the shower and toilets were fine.

The owners were very kind, but the bed was so hard it felt like lying on a wooden angle. There was also noise from the next room's TV. Starting around 3 AM, roosters and wild animals were crying, barking, and making noise.
