After a 12-hour journey, I was told the room I had booked for two through Booking.com actually cost $14 per person, not per room. I’m disabled and have difficulty getting around, so moving elsewhere would have been painful. I asked them to sort it out, since the mistake wasn’t mine. They spent 20 minutes talking among themselves in Tajik, then offered us a dorm bed for the same price. I refused. The manager arrived, rudely tossed my passport back and told me to go somewhere else if I didn’t like it. I reported the issue to customer support but never received a reply. The way we were treated was disgusting and heartless. Please stay away and give your money to people who deserve it.

We booked a private room on Booking.com for $14 a night for two adults, but when we arrived the hostel demanded $45 and wouldn’t acknowledge the booking price. My sick mother, my baby, and I ended up wandering the streets.

We booked a private room for two nights at $27, but on arrival they put us in a triple room with a stranger. They then said the price covered only the first night and blamed Booking.com for the mix-up.

The air conditioner kept the room cool, and the sheets were always white, clean, and tidy. I stayed here for quite a while by tourist standards and was happy with everything. The owners’ whole family was ready to help with questions about registration and trips along the Pamir Highway, Iskanderkul, Haftkul, and elsewhere. Mr Idris was especially helpful, and his smile could brighten your whole day before heading out. They got me an iron when I needed one. Thanks for that, and for the Friday plov, melons, and watermelons.
