Primasol El Mehdi

The beach was beautiful and clean, and the hotel had a great atmosphere. For the reasonable price, I thought it was a fantastic place to stay. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the staff were especially kind and caring. The chef and restaurant manager were both attentive and wonderful. I’d recommend it without hesitation.

My fiancée and I, both 24 and British, had a great stay. The beach is right below the hotel, with sunbeds, calm water, showers and foot baths for rinsing off. It does close in the evening. The outdoor pools were nice, and in mid-April there were plenty of loungers and a peaceful, pleasant atmosphere. The water was about 22°C and a little cold at first, but felt fine once we got in. The three time slots for the slides were 10:00-11:30 and 14:30-16:30, and they were quick and fun. The shop on site had good prices too. I got a ball, rubber ring and bandana for £12, and sunglasses were £8. They also sold bags, football shirts and T-shirts. The animation team put on activities through the day, including French boules, pool aerobics, volleyball and football. Numbers at some sessions were a bit low, maybe because of the season or the guests that week, but the team tried to get people involved. Everyone was welcoming. Mokey and Scooby were excellent. There was a different food theme each night, and the Tunisian menu on Wednesday was my favourite. The dishes were all good, and as someone who weighs and tracks food, I found the selection easy to navigate. Hyder and the other restaurant and bar staff were friendly and attentive. People remembered my name and our past conversations, which made the service feel personal. Although English wasn't their first or second language, we communicated easily. Breakfast was 6-10am, lunch 12:30-2:30pm and dinner from 6:30pm. Between meals, the pool bar had pancakes and sandwiches from 3pm, with snacks by the upper deck pool. Staff kept the halls, reception and rooms very clean. The gym is too tiny for a basic workout, though One VIP Gym is about 20 minutes away and the walk there felt a bit dodgy. The indoor pool was slimy, the room safe didn't work, there was no iron, no coffee station in the room, and no alcohol-free beer. You also can't take food out of the dining area. Reception staff sometimes seemed to want to rush us along. The Wednesday sword show wasn't good, though the animation team's Saturday dance was great and worth seeing. There were lots of people around the hotel offering jewellery, massages, quad bike rides and camel rides. Wi-Fi only worked in reception, the dining area and main pool. Buying a SIM at the airport was quick and cheap, with several gigabyte options. Those smaller issues didn't spoil an otherwise great holiday.

We picked El Mehdi because we wanted to try a cheaper holiday, and it cost almost a third of what we normally pay. The beach and sea were the highlight. In 20 years of holidays in Spain, Egypt, Turkey and Greece, I haven't had a beach and sea like this. Honestly, that saved the trip. The hotel was okay for a week, but not what our family of four was used to. We stayed eight days in August 2025 in two rooms. The property is old throughout. Some rooms are very dated, though they try to place guests in the newer ones. The baths, furniture and walls all showed their age, even though the toilets, baths and TVs worked. Our two fridges didn't. There's no minibar, which I assume is normal for a four-star hotel. Rooms were cleaned daily, but it seemed mostly limited to making the beds. A cobweb low down in the bathroom stayed there the whole time. Towels were often left unchanged, but we could ask the cleaners in the hallway. The Wi-Fi was only in reception. Beach towels required a deposit plus a cleaning fee, and the room safe also had a deposit. Keeping the room for six hours after checkout cost 15 euros. Air conditioning was in the rooms and reception, but not the restaurant. We paid 98 euros in local tax for both rooms and all eight days. There can sometimes be blue jellyfish in the sea, so be careful. There were two small pools, plus one by the slides. The slides were okay, but there were only three, which didn't feel like enough for all the children. Food choices varied, but there was always pizza and a pasta cook as backup. There was plenty of fish, which is useful if you like it. Our kids sometimes couldn't find something they wanted, though they could always get spaghetti or pizza. The main restaurant and pool restaurant served the same food. The other guests were mostly Slovak, Czech, Romanian and Serbian, with some Italians. I didn't find the guests especially well mannered, though I don't mean to offend anyone and can only describe what I experienced. Overall, it was a good enough holiday for the low price and the comfort offered, even with the hotel's age and extra costs.

The hotel is dated, though it's maintained well. We enjoyed the beach and pools, and the staff were kind and helpful. There was plenty to choose from at meals, even if the dishes repeated often, so we found things we liked. The animation team did a great job too. One thing did put a damper on the trip: $50 was stolen from our room. The hotel didn't seem to take it seriously, and the receptionist didn't even apologize. If you're staying, pay extra for the room safe.
