We paid a lot for an hour of wedding photos and had arranged the appointment, but the woman wouldn’t let more than the two photographers go upstairs. My wife needed her sister there to hold her dress and help her, so she had to sit in the woman’s office instead. We came as four people, including the sister and photographers, and didn’t feel welcome at all. It was our wedding day, and she could at least have treated us kindly instead of making the shoot difficult. A very bad experience. I wouldn’t return and would tell others to choose another location.

Getting around from Dar Benti was easy. Signs from the old market entrance led us right to the door, and the location by the main entrances to the madina worked well for us. The lounge is about a four minute walk, the metro around seven minutes away, and the historical sights by the ocean take roughly 5-10 minutes on foot. There are local food spots, cafes and shisha nearby, while more modern dining is about a 15 minute walk away. Our room felt like its own little oasis, with two beautifully decorated beds. The larger room with an extra bed sounds amazing if the price suits you, as it feels like a whole home. Sarah has made several lovely places around the property to relax, and the scents and atmosphere in the rooms are beautiful too. The design is elegant throughout, with handcrafted touches in every corner of this more than 100 year old home. Breakfast was remarkable every day, with the kitchen staff taking real care over how it was presented. Rim’s tour explaining how Sarah transformed the house was a bonus. The staff were kind, though quite shy, and lovely to talk with. For a getaway, especially if location matters, we’d happily recommend Dar Benti. Super merci Sarah, Rim, the hospitality staff and the young, very shy maintenance gentleman!

The rooms were lovely and well looked after, and there’s local beer and wine for guests who want to try them. I also enjoyed the quiet rooftop, a nice place to sunbathe or have a quick dip before heading back out to explore Monastir. Dar Bhenti is in the medina, a short walk from its west gate. Cafes, banks and landmarks are all within about 5-10 minutes on foot, which was very convenient. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and breakfast was a lovely spread each morning.

Finding it means winding through the Medina’s narrow alleys, but it felt peaceful and safe even in the evening. The venue itself is beautiful, with a thoughtful mix of modern and traditional details. They’ve done a brilliant job with the renovation and decor, and breakfast was excellent.

The bathroom is very small, with little room around the toilet, and there isn’t a bathroom door. The building is older, so alongside its beautiful traditional architecture it can feel a little dated. The owner has clearly put a lot of work into making it more modern and comfortable. The location is great and the staff were super friendly. We didn’t speak French or Arabic, but they were happy to use Google Translate and helped us find parking and restaurants. There’s a nice pool and rooftop, and breakfast had lots of options.
