We were glad to leave after one night, though it was fine for that short stay. The room overlooked the ruins, which they gave us without us asking, and the sliding doors let us air it out. There wasn’t much soft furnishing to hold the smoke smell, but all rooms allow smoking. The lobby smoke was so acrid I could barely breathe, and I held my breath going from the dining room through the lobby to our room. Dinner was included in the nightly fee, yet we were asked to pay for it again. The manager, who was different from the man who checked us in, came out to talk to us. Someone else mentioned the same issue in another review, so it seems common. We sorted it out quickly without too much trouble, but maybe get a receipt to avoid this. The place was clean enough and the food better than expected, if very shabby. We stayed after visiting the ruins next door.

The rooms were clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi was decent. Breakfast was already plated when served, and there was no safe in the room.

Getting here means driving or taking a taxi, since there’s no public transportation nearby. Once there, I found the staff friendly and professional, and the detailed check-in questions felt reassuring from a security point of view. Hotel Sufetula is a good base for exploring the area quietly, especially if you’re interested in history, with the archaeological site right next door.

We had a sufficient standard breakfast, and the hotel wasn’t very busy. There’s a bar and parking, but payment is in cash because the card machine doesn’t work. The rooms are big, with balconies looking out over the Sbeitla site, which has a great view.

We asked reception for a large room facing the ruins, and they obliged. After seeing the impressive Roman ruins at Subaytilah, the hotel more than met our needs. It has a pool, a bar area, and a good location. Dinner was a smorgasbord and just okay, while breakfast was disappointing. Still, a good hotel.
