The courtyard was peaceful and lovely, the room was small but very clean, and breakfast was enjoyable. The owner, an elderly gentleman, was especially kind and welcoming, and the hotel has lots of character. Still, I left feeling hurt by an incident involving the receptionist. We asked her to help us rent a car, and she responded quickly and seriously, contacted someone she knew, and came back with a price. We thought it seemed high. Since we’d been taken advantage of several times before in Tunis, we asked questions and explained our concern. She replied, “I don't like when we host Syrian people; they always give me a hard time and argue about money.” My friend and I are Syrians, and that comment made us feel judged and unwelcome. We chose not to escalate things out of respect, but it stayed with us. I’m sharing this in the hope that guests of every nationality are treated with more sensitivity and professionalism. Hospitality should be kind, without stereotypes.

There were cats everywhere, and I couldn’t stop taking photos. I’d wanted to stay in a “real” hotel, but this is a Dar conversion, an actual house. My little single room with its own bathroom had everything I needed, and it was clean and comfortable. I’m tall, so I had to remember to duck in most parts of the hotel. The location is superb, close to all the attractions. I could get around easily and take my sunrise and sunset shots without wasting time. The area and the people were great. Breakfast was amazing, and I went back for seconds. I don’t drink coffee, but some other tourists were really impressed by its quality. I enjoyed all the tea I had too.

The big courtyard is the main charm here. We had breakfast there and sat outside in the evenings. It’s a pretty courtyard house in a good location, with cozy rooms, tiled walls, and vaulted ceilings.

The location makes it easy to reach all the attractions. This beautiful hotel is converted from a Dar, which means “house” in Arabic. My single room was small, but tidy and clean, with its own bathroom and a heater. The bed was comfortable, and the blanket was warm.

The free breakfast was quite good, and they make really good, strong coffee. Rooms are cleaned every day. WiFi wasn’t great inside the room, but it wasn’t a big issue for us. A great location if you’re staying in Sidi Bou Said.
