The museum traces Tunisia's history through its different periods up to modern times. Interesting, and worth a visit.

The final section recreates a cave house and looks very good. It's worthwhile if you're not going to Matamata to see the real ones. The whole place seems to come from a desire to share care, consideration, and love of Tunisia with visitors, in English, French, and Arabic. Bring the children, who doesn't like a dinosaur or two? Our Group Leader brought us here after a morning in the hotel pool and an afternoon in a 4 x 4 in a galaxy far, far, away. I might have enjoyed it more if I'd been less tired. The first part has dinosaurs, not real ones, followed by rooms of exhibits about Tunisia's history. It's quirky, with a mix of real items and reproductions, and felt a bit like a time warp to the 1950s or 60s.

Kids will love it, and adults can learn quite a bit too. The museum supports French, Arabic, Spanish, English, German, and Italian. We took the Dar Zamen tour of Tunisian history. It's interesting to visit with a critical eye, since some displays present the official national narrative at times, though nothing seemed inaccurate. The museum has a corny, immersive feel, like what one of those places in the 80s must have been like.

The evolution section at the beginning has lots to spark kids' imaginations. The museum is very large and varied, with three sections. Some of the religious exhibits felt a bit simplistic, though it's fun if you suspend belief. Worth a look, especially for children.
