Royal Victoria - Ex British Embassy

Hotel Victoria is right by the Medina, and there was always a taxi waiting outside, so getting around was easy. Mr. Lotfi was especially kind and helpful, and the other staff were welcoming too. My room was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast was a little disappointing, but I enjoyed the rest of the stay and would recommend it for the convenient location near the Medina.

I liked the old-fashioned, slightly overdecorated look, though I can see why some might call it dated. My balcony room looked out over the lovely square at the edge of the Medina. The hotel was warm and welcoming, and you really can't beat the location.

My dad booked this place this month as a surprise for my mum, but it fell well short. The TV in the room didn't work, and the socket frame came loose as soon as it was touched. Cleaning was at a very low standard and the place seemed barely maintained. The drinking glasses hadn't been cleaned, and neither the windows nor the balcony appeared to have been cleaned. There was pigeon poo all over. For an expensive, central hotel, I'd expect a lot better.

The balcony was a great place to sit and watch the city bustle. The hotel is right at the entrance to the old medina and where the main street ends, with other places easy to reach from there. Breakfast was really good, with dried fruit and a local Tunisian touch; you can eat outside while looking at the beautiful Medina entrance. The staff were humble and helpful, and I loved my stay. I'd choose this hotel again on future trips and recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy Tunis.
