Occidental Marco Polo

The beach at sunset was magical, and the quiet, relaxed atmosphere made this a lovely last night before our flight. We had breakfast early, which was decent, though I don’t eat much, then spent some time by the beach alone with my husband. The hotel is older, but they’re doing their best to renovate and keep it in good shape. It was cold, yet the pool still looked tempting. We saw there was a show after dinner, but stayed on the balcony to relax instead. The hotel was clean, which matters most to me. The welcome fruit and little flowers by the bed were a sweet touch. Reception and kitchen staff were very nice, especially after some awful experiences we’d had at other hotels in Tunis.

We spent 12 days here in September through the Itaka travel agency, and I’d give the hotel 2/5. The food was alright but lacked variety, and cleanliness was fine, though we heard there had been cockroaches in another room. The biggest letdown was some of the people: the hotel photographer got pushy and even angry when asked about prices, and the man with a camel on the beach was aggressive and wouldn’t leave us alone. Evening entertainment was meant to start at 9 p.m., but nothing happened until 10, with music playing on and on while they dragged things out. The two guys leading pool exercises were genuinely great. The rest of the animators just seemed to be there.

Even in low season, the staff were amazing and the entertainment team worked hard to keep things fun. There was plenty of good food and generous drinks. A top hotel in Hammamet, with everything you’d expect from a four-star place.

We were very happy with our week here. The hotel is conveniently close enough to walk to the center, and both the location and staff were wonderful. We had everything we needed, and the reception team were welcoming and helpful, especially dear Olfa. Thanks for everything.
