Waterfront Lodge

The garden and sea views were lovely, and the hotel has an intriguing collection of artefacts and impressive art throughout. The rooms were comfortable, very nice, and had everything we needed. A lovely boutique hotel and classy restaurant in Nuku’alofa. I'd 100% recommend it if you're visiting Tonga! 🤩

The restaurant gets busy, but the food is very good. Local produce is the best choice, as usual, and on some evenings a solo singer performs live music really well. I didn't stay at the hotel, though I've heard the rooms are good. It's one of the best restaurants on the island, and I'd be keen to stay here on a future visit.

The restaurant has a warm, classy feel, and live music made the evening even more enjoyable. I had such a great experience at the Waterfront lodge cafe, and I'll stop by again next time I'm in Tonga. The food was amazing. I tried ota for a starter, garlic shrimp, the catch of the day, lamb, pork belly, and steak, and every one was so tasty I can't pick a favorite. The pesto basil bread was my favorite appetizer, and the ice cream and cream puffs are to die for. You have to try it when you go!

The free breakfast was great, and the restaurant was generally pretty good for lunch, dinner, and drinks. Just be ready for a long wait for food, an hour or more, when it's busy. This place probably offers the best value among Nuku’alofa's higher-end accommodation options. It's on the waterfront, but there's no view. Instead, it's a lovely colonial-style building in a peaceful garden setting. The rooms are basic, like much of what you'll find in Tonga, but they're large and clean, with decent balconies. There's not much privacy out there, so be prepared to chat with your neighbours if you're on the balcony at the same time. With all double beds, it's probably better suited to couples and singles, though I think they have a family unit off-site. It's not in the centre of town, but the location is very good, with a few shops, restaurants, and bars nearby. It's also well positioned for going to Pangaimotu island, and the town swimming pool isn't too far away. You can walk into town in about 25-30 minutes if you're moderately fit. I'd definitely recommend staying here and would return in the future.
