Amasya turned out to be a surprisingly good place to stop on our way to Istanbul. It’s a small, cosy town that still has its historic look and atmosphere. We stayed in this nice konak hotel in the historical centre, in a wooden house with a good location. Our room was clean, and we were lucky enough to get one with a real hamam. The staff were so friendly, and breakfast was served in the garden.

We ended up at this guesthouse by chance after arriving in Amasya in November for two nights. We’re public employees and couldn’t find a place at any guesthouse. Some of the reviews were negative, but we ignored them and were very happy with our stay, especially as the hotel has changed ownership. The staff were attentive and helpful, and we’d like to thank Mr. Yavuz. We don’t understand how some people disliked the breakfast. We would have paid at least 1000 TL for that kind of spread elsewhere. Our room was on the side with music, but since it was winter, we didn’t hear much. We had two small children with us, and the claims in some reviews that it was unsafe were completely untrue. Official and plainclothes tourism police patrol every street constantly. The location is fantastic, close to everything, and the people of Amasya are hospitable. It’s a family hotel too, and friends came to visit while we were there. Most of the places we saw in Amasya served alcohol. We don’t drink, but nobody was disrespectful or made us uncomfortable. If you want to travel back in time, stay at Kaleiçi Konak ❤️ The only thing I missed was a kettle in the room, but this city suffered a huge fire in its history and couldn’t be settled for 40 years, so let’s skip the kettle. Hopefully we’ll see each other again.

The location is right in the middle of the market, but our room, Umut, was terrible. There wasn’t even a refrigerator or trash can, and the air conditioning was broken. Breakfast was just hot french fries. When people walked upstairs, the chandeliers swayed. The pillows felt like they were stuffed with felt or something, and were so hard I couldn’t sleep on them. The bathroom was very, very bad. The towels had brown stains, like they hadn’t been washed, and while the mirror had been wiped, everything else was marked with water and yellow dirt. I won’t choose this place again.

I stayed for about 10 days, and I’d choose Kaleiçi again when I return to Amasya. It’s central and especially good if you want to feel the historic character of the area. There’s no parking right in front, but the car park is very close, and we always found a space during our stay. We had no problems with the car. The rooms were clean and comfortably warm in winter, and breakfast was quite good. At the hotel entrance there’s an area for breakfast that also serves drinks and stays open late. There’s music in the evenings, but it wasn’t loud enough to bother us. Thanks to Uğurbey, Ufuk bey, and Döndü hanıma, who were attentive and good at solving problems.

It was lovely staying in a historic mansion. The rooms were clean and spacious, and our room’s bathroom was quite large and clean too. The location is central, within walking distance of everything, and they’re very helpful with parking. Breakfast doesn’t have much variety, but if you don’t expect too much, you won’t go hungry.
