Ismira Hotel Ankara

The location's the one good thing. The air conditioning didn't work, and my bones hurt for the whole few days I was there. The light was really dim too, which seemed like an effort to save electricity. I moved to another hotel, and that room was hot like a sauna because they cared about guests being comfortable, not just their own greed and pockets. Someone was smoking you know what, and the smell was awful. I wouldn't recommend this place.

The location was the only upside, and the problems made us check out early, before checkout time. Our first room's bathroom smelled foul, almost like sewage, so we asked to change rooms. The next one looked similar and seemed to smell okay, but then we spotted a roach on the wall. It gave us the impression that cleanliness didn't matter to the hotel. A staff woman was rude and had a bad attitude, as if she didn't want to be there or be bothered. I asked her twice for the Wi-Fi password and got the wrong one both times. We didn't want to stay any longer.

The receptionist was really nice, which was the one good thing. The rooms were extremely dirty, smelled of cigarettes, and had old, noisy beds. Hard to describe how bad the stay was.

Being close to Kizilay Square made it easy to find shops and places to eat, and the internet worked pretty well. The staff were warmer when I spoke or tried to speak Turkish, and one housekeeper was especially kind and always keen to keep the room clean. The room itself had some drawbacks: a tiny bathroom, dim lighting, and sheets with occasional small tears. Although it’s a non-smoking hotel, smoke sometimes came through the vents from another room, and I was given air freshener spray to deal with it. Near the end of my stay, the A/C was shut off for repairs. I’d call it more like a 3-star than a Western 4-star place. It has the basics and is okay for a short stay.
