Maltepe Hotel 2000

The staff were kind, which is about the only positive thing I can say. It says three stars on paper, but I'm not sure it deserves even two. Like French would say: c'est dommage. Breakfast was meant to be hot at 7:30, but it was already cold, and there wasn't much choice. No scrambled eggs, only sunny-side-up fried eggs, then sausages in several forms, olives and cold fries. There wasn't even coffee or milk, or so it seemed. The double bed was English size, and the duvet was so small I had to swap it with my wife. It barely covered us. I'll leave the rest for you to judge from the pictures.

Think carefully before booking, since the stay isn't refundable if you change your mind. Our room was cold, and the old air conditioners that might have helped smelled bad. Other guests were noisy at night, smooching around.

The decor inside the hotel is quirky, and the staff were incredibly helpful. It's a handy base if you want to be near the main train station. The big park, Gençlik Parkı, beside it is lovely for walks, rides and photos. The bazaar, castle and lots of museums are about a 20-30 minute walk away.

Maltepe metro is right across the street, and there's a great restaurant about a 3-minute walk away, Ciğerci Aydin I think, serving delicious, authentic Turkish food. We also walked about 20 minutes to the Ataturk and Liberty museum and park. My husband and I really enjoyed our time in Ankara at Maltepe 2000 hotel. The service and accommodation were outstanding, and the manager went above and beyond to make us comfortable. We'll come back in the future!
