New Park Hotel

The staff were pleasant, and they upgraded my room at check-in without me asking. The location in the city centre was convenient, and although the room was huge and looked clean, it smelled moldy. Turning on the air made it worse, and the broken thermostat meant I couldn't adjust the temperature. I was glad I'd booked just one night. There were several choices at the breakfast buffet, but the food tasted stale, as if it had been made several nights earlier. The coffee was awful. I felt bad leaving food, but I couldn't finish the meal.

In early December the room was quite warm, and with the AC out of order, the only way to cool it was to open a window onto a noisy street. There was no bathrobe or iron, and the soap hadn't been refilled. The rooms also looked like they hadn't had a major renovation since the hotel was built. Don't be misled by the 5 stars. That rating seems to reflect the services offered, while the appearance and rooms felt more like a 3 star hotel anywhere in Europe. I was surprised that gym towels cost extra when you can take one from your room. There's also a notice saying you'll be charged if towels or linen get stained, which doesn't fit a 5 star hotel. Fortunately, I paid only 90,- Eur for a Deluxe room. The one shown at the desk for 248,- would have been a huge disappointment. There are other 5 star options nearby, so I'll choose a different hotel next time.

We had a pleasant stay and really enjoyed our time here. The location is excellent, with restaurants, parks, and other amenities easy to reach. The hotel was comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

A heads-up to anyone booking here: you can't bring in or order food from outside, even packaged food. Guests are only allowed to order from the hotel. So if you're hungry late at night or want a burger from elsewhere, that's not allowed. It's a confusing and inconvenient policy.
