We lasted one night here, and that was enough. We’ve travelled around Europe for five years and aren’t fussy people, but I’ve never seen conditions like this. On 21.11.2022, we booked a three-bed room for 320 TL per night. The only thing going for it was the location, about a 10-minute walk from Ankara city centre. The neighborhood itself was unpleasant, with a bad smell, noise, and very limited parking. The room and hotel were filthy. A strong mix of cigarette smoke and urine hit us at reception, and the cigarette smell was even worse in the room. Dust rose from the extremely dirty hallway carpet as we walked. The carpet in the room was covered in visible dirt and stains; the walls were dirty too. The sheets, blankets, and pillows looked unwashed, smelled bad, and had stains. There were no towels. The beds and wardrobe were wet and almost half mouldy, and the chair was covered in disgusting dirt marks. The curtains were meant to be white with a red straw pattern, but looked yellow, dusty, and as if they hadn’t been washed for two or three years. Smoking seemed to be allowed in the room. The balcony was filthy, with empty beer cans, cigarette butts, and dirt on the floor. Street noise made it hard to sleep even with the windows shut, so we couldn’t air out the room. The bathroom was awful: a mouldy ceiling that looked ready to fall, grime, rust, and dirt everywhere, and a shower over the toilet. The shower cap was out of place and disgusting. We were afraid to wash our faces or brush our teeth there, so we used our rented car instead. We covered the bed with our clothes to sleep on, and hoped we hadn’t caught lice. The WiFi and electricity both cut out around 10 p.m. and came back at 3 a.m. By then we’d given up and just wanted the night to pass. As soon as the electricity returned, we left. I can’t understand why they don’t clean rooms properly between guests. Their hygiene standards were deeply disappointing, and I worry about the infection risks. I hope they invest money in the place, but we will never return.
