VE Hotels Adakale

The muffins were the one breakfast item I really liked, fresh, simple and homemade. There wasn't much hot food, just borek and canned tomato stew, with no egg dishes. I tried the oats, but they were stale. Breakfast put me off when I saw dirt on a tomato in the garden room. I rubbed it with a napkin and the mark came off; the other tomatoes looked the same. I pointed it out, but the staff either didn't understand much English or weren't concerned. Nobody took the bowl away to wash it. I stuck to things I could peel, like a boiled egg and a banana. The place looks swanky, but underneath the style it didn't feel clean. The slippers looked dirty underneath after just an hour, and the floor was dirty too. I got a cheap deal, but still wouldn't stay again. If the place is already going downhill so soon after opening, they need to pay attention to the details and wash the food. My room's double glazed windows didn't fit well, so street noise and drafts came through. The cheap grey plastic light switches were already having problems. The bathroom taps seemed badly fitted, the basin and shower turned opposite ways for hot water. There was masking tape on the inside bathroom door handle, which made me wonder whether anyone was paying attention.

The room was clean and good. It wasn't big, but I was on my own, so it worked for me.

Spot on, with a super clean room, friendly staff and a great breakfast. An absolutely amazing place to stay.

I went to the restaurant to break my fast, but the waitress told me they weren't serving. There were lots of people eating and an empty table, so I sat down, and that was the answer I got. As a hotel guest, I really didn't like being turned away. That was the last straw, so I'm writing this despite having plenty more complaints. The rooms are tiny, and there's an unbearable drain smell that they won't let you escape by changing rooms. You just have to live with it. There's a window inside the shower, so it gets freezing while you're washing. Foam around the window frame might have helped. I couldn't tell if the heaters worked, and the one that did made such a disturbing noise it kept me awake. Cleaning was superficial: staff took out the trash and made the bed, but didn't clean the bathroom. Water is supposed to be provided daily, but they only leave it after cleaning, so if you don't ask for cleaning, you get none. The location is above Kızılay shopping mall. Walking under the bridge at night feels dangerous, with drunk people and stalkers around. There are cafes on both sides as you approach the hotel, and as a woman walking alone, I felt harassment from men outside the cafes and men coming out of the liquor store next door was inevitable. I also didn't feel the hotel was secure. Anyone can walk in, probably because the restaurant is open to the public, and nobody asks who you are or why you're entering.
