The lower rooms are more spacious, though they don’t offer as much privacy as the smaller rooms upstairs. They’re quite rustic and could use more comfortable touches, like side lamps. The square is charming for late night chats, and breakfast brings a wide range of great local Antakya delicacies. There’s no hotel parking, but management helps park cars and brings them back when guests are ready to leave. Right by the old bazaar, it’s close to good eateries and the Expo center. A restful boutique stay if you want to be in the old town and bazaar area.

The courtyard is peaceful, the architecture is lovely, and the rooms were clean and well designed. Staff were courteous and very helpful, and breakfast was delicious, like all the food in Hatay. It’s also easy to reach historical sites and the bus line or road to the museums.

We spent three nights in room 206 during our Antakya visit in mid November. It was a bit tight, but had modern conveniences alongside the character of an old building. The breakfast was amazing, with local olives, breads, and jams. The Avula Hotel is a converted Ottoman period mansion, renovated to preserve its original form. Entering through the old covered bazaar really feels like stepping back in time. The receptionist and staff were ultra friendly, as you’d expect in Antakya. I’d highly recommend staying here.

We were here with family for just one night, and I’d happily stay again. Everything, from the setting and service to the food, was 10/10. Being so central helped a lot, since everything was within walking distance. I’d recommend it to anyone.
