Türkay Hotel

The staff were polite, pleasant to talk with, and seemed to be trying. The problem felt more like a lack of management and control. The hotel looks nice from outside and in the lobby, with modern decor and beautiful elevators, but that facade doesn't make up for the poor organization, missing basics, noise, and general inconvenience. Though it's listed as three stars, it felt like two at best. I won't return or recommend it, especially to travelers from Europe. There are much better choices for the price. We booked a room with one large bed for two, but it was so cramped there was barely room to get in and lie down, let alone move around together. Despite asking for a quiet room, we got one facing a busy road. Traffic was very loud even with the windows shut, making sleep impossible. With the windows closed there was no air, and we don't use air conditioning because my husband has allergies. We ended up sleepless and exhausted in the morning. The room was extremely cramped, and check-in was only at 15:00 with checkout at 11:00. That effectively gives the hotel about three hours, which seemed unjustified when cleaning those tiny rooms should take at most an hour. The curtains were dirty and dusty, as if they hadn't been washed for years. The light fixtures were crooked and looked like they might fall. The shower head sprayed in all directions except down, so we had to try to catch the water at an angle. We gave up on showering. The bathroom had towels, disposable slippers, toiletries, and a loofah, but none of it was usable. There was no shoehorn or shoe sponge in the wardrobe, basics even budget hotels have. A kettle was provided, but no cups or spoons, so where were we supposed to pour tea? Everything in the minibar fridge was charged except one bottle of water, which felt petty at this room price. Breakfast was on the eighth floor, with lovely views of the city and sea, but dirty windows spoiled the panorama. The selection was poor: olives, salad, bread, several kinds of cheese, one Turkish sausage that's an acquired taste, eggs, sweets, honey, and jam, which not everyone wants at breakfast. Without eggs, it's basically greens, cheese, and bread. The coffee was another disappointment, a low quality drink from an ordinary filter machine that I wouldn't call coffee.
