Grand Heykel Hotel

The location has potential: there are plenty of reasonably priced restaurants nearby, and it's close to the tramp/bus. Staff were pleasant enough, and breakfast was okay, with bread, ham, cheese, and eggs. If you're lucky, the coffee machine works; otherwise, it's tea and juice. The bedroom was nice, though I found some hairs and little bits on the mattress, and the fridge smelled bad. The bathroom was the main letdown, with mould in places and a rusty cabinet under the sink that needs replacing. I could still shower if I shut my eyes. Wi-Fi kept cutting in and out and was barely usable. Overall, it isn't the worst, but things need updating.

Breakfast had plenty of good, varied options, served in a rooftop restaurant with 360 degree views of Bursa. The staff were helpful, friendly, and always smiling, especially Mr Erhan, who worked hard to make sure everything was right. I spent 7 nights in a quiet, clean room with pleasant decor, a nice bathroom, constant hot water, and adequate internet. The hotel is central, close to major sights, shops, cafes, and local transport. Very good value for money, and I'd definitely stay again.

The location made it easy to walk everywhere, and the staff were friendly and attentive. But our booking was for two single-bed rooms, and instead we got one double and one with an extra bed. That bed was so bad my son went to stay with a friend in Bursa after the first night. The bathrooms had no windows or ventilation, so they were damp, with mould on the walls and ceilings. The terrace had a lovely view at breakfast, but the food seemed far from fresh, as if yogurt-based sauces covered everything to hide the staleness. Kitchen and service staff loudly talked about how long guests were sitting at their tables, making it hard to enjoy the terrace. It felt like they wanted everyone out within 30 minutes. The room doors were poorly made and hard to close, and I kept waking up as I heard other guests struggling with theirs.

The price is very fair, and breakfast was really nice, with a beautiful view. The hotel and rooms were very clean, and the staff were kind and helpful. When I asked one of them to show me the bus station for Otogar, she offered to drive me to Otogar. I'd give them 10 stars, highly recommended.
