The staff were genuinely kind and the service was very good. Still, the owner quoted us far more than the online price, and we shouldn't have trusted him without checking. We'd been cycling around Turkey for two months and had met a lot of wonderful Kurdish hospitality, though there are exceptions. He also said the mountain pass was covered in snow and advised us to stay two or three extra nights. We found no snow at all. Western tourists should be cautious here, much as they might be in Istanbul.

Dinner came individually plated, and breakfast wasn't a buffet. If we wanted anything beyond what was served, we had to ask for it. We also had to point out what room facilities were missing before they would provide them. Their explanation, as usual, was that it was the off-season.

We chose the villa-style apartments hoping the family could use the pool more comfortably. The rooms themselves were good, and the reception and staff were very attentive. But the bathroom hygiene was poor: there was no drain in the toilet area, and the badly sloped floor left water pooling by the door. The kitchen had a counter but no stove or similar equipment. We also weren't told that the thermal pool drain only opens once a day. We poured in detergent to clean it, then had to wait to enter the water and lost time. Ask ahead about the water temperature and settings too. We wanted to get in at 7 a.m. on our arrival morning, but no hot water came through. They said it was a malfunction, though at a place like this hot water shouldn't be a problem. Tatilium is arguably the region's only thermal hotel, and despite the disappointment, I would definitely choose it again.

On my first visit in 2023, the place was cold, not to my taste, and still not fully operating. When I came back on January 17, 2026, it was completely finished and had turned into a luxurious five-star establishment, built with a lot of government money. The service and pool situation, though, are dire. I couldn't tell whether it was because of customer demand or something else, but people were treating the pool like an Olympic tournament, shouting, and jumping in so they left others underwater. I won't return. The water source has very little sulfur, but I think about 80% of it is ordinary tap water. I hope management gives the place a clear status. It shouldn't end up like Lalezar Thermal on the Erzurum road, wasting national wealth. It's a shame, since it was built with our money. Meanwhile, people from Çaldıran are moving away. Who would put millions into this?
