Fairyland Cave Hotel - Special Class

Breakfast was better than standard, and the staff were warm and kind. The hotel’s location felt strategic and was easy to reach despite its panoramic setting. We had a flawless stay with my girlfriend, enjoying a lovely mix of luxury and authenticity. The rooms had spectacular, incomparable views, including a front row look at the famous balloon recital. Everything in the room seemed thoughtfully chosen, with high quality materials.

At Fairyland Cave Hotel, the rock carved rooms felt cool and peaceful, with modern comforts alongside the historic character. The hotel sits amid Cappadocia's magical landscape, and sunrise views were breathtaking, with hot air balloons dotting the sky. Staff were attentive and went out of their way to help, from arranging tours to sharing local insights. Breakfast offered a lavish mix of local and international choices, a lovely start to the day. It’s a distinctive place to stay for anyone wanting to experience Cappadocia’s beauty and mystique.

Room 111 was so musty that my wife, our two kids, and I couldn't sleep properly. The suite had almost no ventilation, and its deep bathtub was right beside the main bed. Even after an hour or two, we couldn't get used to the smell. I've stayed in cave rooms before and know the usual cave smell; this was far beyond that and felt like a health risk. The terrace is well placed for watching the balloons in the morning, but the room issue and how it was handled overshadowed that. Management first dismissed our concern as just the smell of a cave. After I raised it twice with the owner and said we'd leave unless moved, they transferred us to smaller, standard room 108. Its tub was by a window, so it smelled much less and we could at least sleep, though perfume seemed to be used to cover the remaining mustiness. That suggests the problem wasn't in every room. Even after moving us, they charged the full suite rate for all three nights, although we'd paid for a room that wasn't fit to stay in. My concern isn't the money so much as management refusing to acknowledge a basic problem with the suite. I wouldn't recommend staying here for your health. The location is great and there are plenty of other hotels nearby. I'd choose somewhere with a local Cappadocian owner who cares about guests and the region's hospitality reputation. This place is owned by a man from Ankara who seems focused on short-term profits.

Our flight was canceled because of snow, and the weather also meant we couldn't drive from Istanbul for our Valentine's booking. We contacted the hotel hoping to cancel or move the trip, but they offered no solution and kept our money. We booked through an online agency. The hotel told us to handle it with the agency, and when we did, we were told cancellation wasn't possible but changing dates might be. We tried to do that, but the agency said the change request had been canceled. We asked the day before, after the flight was canceled, not at the last minute. Nobody asked us for flight details, and the request was simply declined without explanation. So we paid in advance for a service we couldn't use, and got nothing back. Then the hotel accused us of lying and threatened legal action over our bad Google review. At the very least, they could have offered some option to customers who paid but couldn't make the trip. I hope they do take legal action, since maybe that's the only way I can get my money back. This feels like a complete scam. Do not book here.
