The people at reception were especially kind and helpful, often helping with questions about getting around Erzurum as well as hotel matters. That made my stay much more comfortable. The hotel is quite close to the bus stop for Palandoken ski resort, about 350 metres away, so it's convenient if you're here to ski or snowboard and don't want to depend on taxis. The main attractions are a 15 to 20-minute walk, though in winter the snow and ice on Erzurum's roads and sidewalks are often left uncleared, which can make walking difficult and uncomfortable. My room was clean and generally nice, but it could get quite cold in winter, especially when it was around minus 18 degrees Celsius outside. If you feel the cold, bring thermal underwear to sleep in. Sound insulation was poor too. I could hear a neighbour talking on the phone in the next room, and other guests' slamming doors were very loud. Earplugs would be a good idea for light sleepers. The restaurant terrace had a really beautiful view, especially in the morning. At breakfast around 7:30 AM it was stunning, well worth getting up early for. Breakfast itself was decent, with enough choice for me, though nothing special. Omelette costs extra and isn't included. There are some real downsides in winter, especially the cold room and noise, but the staff were wonderful. They cared, tried to help, and did what they could to make the stay more comfortable, so my high rating is mainly for them and their attitude toward guests.
