Ofuro World Hotel Spa

We had a tasty home-cooked meal there, and breakfast was nice too. The room was large, well equipped, comfortable, and clean, with a small patio. They provided tea, coffee, and water in the room. It’s a friendly, family-run hotel about 3km from izmir airport. We’ll definitely stay again.

For £90/night (3200TL at the time of writing), this was extremely disappointing. The staff were rude and unprofessional, and I felt they showed unacceptable racism. When I raised the room’s condition, they brushed me off as “English” and “always complaining.” The room seemed to be a Turkish bath converted by simply putting a double bed in it. There was no ventilation, and the balcony was a joke. The place was unacceptably unclean. It had two toilets and two separate basins, with motion-sensor lights that kept switching on and off while we used the toilets, which was extremely irritating. There was also a step just below the bed, a serious tripping hazard that needs fixing. I checked in at 1:30 in the morning, went straight to bed, woke at 6 am because of the toilet smell, and checked out at 8 am.

We stayed one night while visiting Izmir. The room was quite high-standard, with a comfortable bed, access to the garden, and a lovely rocking chair. I did find crumbs on the chair and on the floor beneath the dressing table, so the cleaning was a bit patchy. Breakfast was adequate, but the staff seemed surprised to see us and spoke no English. After a busy day sightseeing, we asked about the spa, but were only told to ask upstairs and weren’t given any details about prices. Leaflets or some sign that the hotel and spa businesses communicated on guests’ behalf would have helped. It felt like a missed opportunity, and we didn’t ask any further.

The hotel is family-run, and the husband was truly a gentleman, so helpful and generous with his time. He helped me a lot without expecting anything in return, and I really appreciate it. Dear Hotel Owner, if you ever come to Malaysia for some good food, please let me know. I’ll do my best to take you out on a food-hunting day.
