The food was good and fairly priced, and the hotel works well as a base for a short walk to Akdamar Island or a hike up Mount Artos. The rooms were okay, too. But for what we paid, the rest was pretty disappointing. There’s no pool, despite the photo showing one. They should remove that picture, because it makes the place feel misleading. They sent us to the “beach,” but it was full of trash and not a nice alternative. The hotel also isn’t right on the beach as Google Maps suggests: a highway runs between it and the lake. The map listing should be corrected. Service was poor. We arranged a taxi the night before for an early hike up Mount Artos, but it never came. The staff member only ordered it in the morning, so other hikers started later than planned. Reception staff spoke very little English, which I’d expect them to manage at this price. None of our cards worked here, the only place we had that problem in Turkey. A bank transfer was okay, but international transfers take a day or two, and staff kept asking us several times a day when the money would arrive. Really annoying.

The breakfast was amazing, and the rooms are huge. You also get a gorgeous view of the church on ahtamara island. Probably the best deal in this city.

The location was the one thing that kept me from giving this one star. Check-in was a mess: we waited about two hours just to get an answer, and a lot of people were arguing with the tour leader. Then they showed us a room that had already been occupied by three people. Staff had moved their belongings and suitcases without asking. The hotel management was the worst I've ever dealt with.
