Historical Goreme House

The staff made the stay for us. They were always ready to answer questions, help out, and give honest suggestions for making the most of our time. The hotel itself feels warm and thoughtfully decorated to fit the fairy chimney setting. Our room was clean, breakfast had plenty of tasty choices, and the views were lovely. It’s only a few minutes’ walk from the main strip, too.

We came with our kids for three nights and had a great time. The hotel is right near the center, about a five-minute walk into town, and the staff were warm and happy to help with bookings and tours. The green tour they arranged for us went smoothly and was excellent. We arrived a few hours before check-in, but they let us into the room early at no charge. Our transfer was late on departure day, and they also let us keep using the room without charging extra. A charming, rustic place, and a lovely stay.

What we remember most is how at home we felt at Historical Goreme House. The breakfasts were generous and delicious, with that cared-for, homemade feel, and the staff were warm and lively. They helped arrange an tour, explained things, and shared tips while being attentive without hovering. Our room had a jacuzzi, which got plenty of use. We enjoyed more than one bottle of Turkish wine there and went through over a kilo of mandarins and lokum in total comfort. We stayed several nights, including New Year’s Eve, and it became one of the coziest stops on our trip around Cappadocia. We had picked the hotel partly because Booking photos made the fireplace in our room look usable, and we’d pictured lighting it on New Year’s Eve. On arrival, we learned it was decorative and no longer functional, which was a bit disappointing at first. It didn’t end up mattering much. We welcomed the New Year on the main square in Göreme, surrounded by people, lights, cold air, laughter, and the excitement of the moment. It was noisy and unexpected, but so much fun. Sometimes you get a memory you hadn’t planned on, and this was one we look back on with a smile.

The terrace gave us an unforgettable early morning view of the hot air balloons taking off over the city. We also found convenient free parking outside the hotel and more spaces nearby. We’d booked at the last minute for our final day in Göreme, and the suite with private pool was such a hit that we spent most of our remaining time there, including eating in the room. We would have stayed longer if we hadn’t already planned our next stop in Antalya. Our room was huge, with a private pool, jacuzzi bath, and sauna. The wall carvings, lighting, and overall design were remarkable, and we liked being able to adjust the light colors. There were no windows, but my claustrophobic wife was comfortable because the space was large and the entrance had double doors. The heated pool and cave setting did make the room humid. It was most noticeable when we first came in, then faded into the background, and the air conditioning helped. It may matter if you’re sensitive to humidity. One of the owners greeted us at check-in and explained the humidity before we settled in. He also told us the hotel, including our room, was built into caves where his grandparents had lived. That made the stay feel more personal. We’d been drawn in by the photos of the private-pool suite, and it looked even better in person. Many other rooms looked lovely too, with most carved directly into the rock. One of our most memorable stays anywhere.
