Mithra Cave Cappadocia

The hotel ended up being one of the best parts of our trip, even though we hadn't planned to spend much time there. The rooms, breakfast, and hospitality were all better than we expected. After reading the negative reviews, I found them completely off the mark. It was an amazing stay, and I'd definitely come back.

The cave suite was worth booking: it had loads of space and a large bathroom, and the included breakfast was nice to have. From the terrace, we enjoyed watching the balloons in the morning. Other guests were considerate, taking turns and helping one another with photos. There are a few things that could be better. We weren't clearly shown the hotel facilities at check-in. Staff could have introduced the terrace and restaurant instead of focusing only on selling the private terrace. The room smelled like it was coming from the bathroom, and water leaked from the bathtub.

The balloon view from the hotel's good location was a real plus, but our room made the four-night stay difficult. The fairy chimney room was dark, humid, and dusty, with no proper ventilation. Its skylight wouldn't open, so we went several days without fresh air, which felt uncomfortable and unhealthy, especially with a child. We asked to move rooms, but they declined even though other rooms were available. There was also a cat constantly in the hallway and restaurant, which was hard for me because I'm allergic.

The setting is hard to beat: the hotel has one of the city's best locations, with a great morning view of the balloons. The rooms have a cool design, and breakfast was very nice, with good-quality local food. Just don't expect much European-style breakfast, like croissants. The bell staff were very friendly, but service at check-in and checkout could use a smile. They also give each room a 100 TRY voucher, yet seemed to do their best to stop us from using it. That felt cheap and like poor marketing. I hope they improve that.
