It's the team that makes this place. Simon and the staff went above and beyond to make our holiday brilliant. The location is perfect, with shops, bars, restaurants and supermarkets right nearby, and the beach about a 15-minute walk away. Icmeler has something for everyone. This was our first visit, but it won't be the last. The rooms were spotless, beds comfortable, and linen and towels fresh daily. The lovely pool and immaculate grounds were kept clean constantly. There were lots of cushioned loungers, always plenty free, and it was easy to find sun or shade. The bar areas were pleasant, with a free pool table and reasonably priced drinks. I'd be very happy to stay at Avlu again.

We lasted one day of a two-week holiday before turning around and getting flights straight back to the UK. With my autistic daughter in meltdown, I couldn't risk staying in a place where sharing a bed with her seemed acceptable and funny to the staff. We were given a small double bed for the two of us after the rooms were overbooked. The people who carried our bags laughed about it, then wanted a tip. The hotel saw no issue and laughed to my face, even though the apartment was tiny, had no couch to lie on, and was boiling hot. Air conditioning cost 10 pounds a night and barely cooled the room. The fridge door open would have been colder. The self-catering setup was just a camping stove on a counter beside the sink. The internet was so bad I couldn't get a steady signal to try to arrange another apartment. When I asked for our passports back, they handed them over with a thumb gesture for us to leave the office. The guy must have heard from his staff that I was unhappy and hadn't tipped them, as he didn't say a word to me. The apartments seemed centrally located, the grounds were quiet and there was a small pool. But the room was tiny, cleaning was poor, and items from previous guests hadn't even been removed. Be warned about the weak air conditioning and being expected to share a small double bed with your daughter. Two weeks turned into one day because I couldn't accept the way they treated us.

Our room was cleaned daily by two lovely women, and the location was nice, close to everything but quiet at night. Murat, the owner, was such a lovely man and made us feel very welcome. He couldn't do enough for us, and his wife Senay was wonderful too. She bakes fabulous cakes. I'd definitely recommend the place and will go back.

I had a one-bedroom apartment to myself when I stayed in October 22. Everything you need for self-catering is there. It's a lovely place on the main road with supermarkets next door. The hosts were lively and nothing was too much trouble. The pool was lovely and clean, with plenty of sunbeds. There's nothing for children, though. I'd definitely stay here again.
