Ista Palace Hotel

The photos gave a very different impression from the actual place, which felt nothing like a “Palace.” We stayed two nights, though we'd unfortunately booked four, and had to move between two rooms. Both had rats. The worst experience I've had so far.

The staff were great, always helpful and quick to assist. Our room was good value, and the only issue we had was that the shower drained a little slowly. There's a fridge available, though we didn't use it. The location is very central, around a 5-10 minute walk from the Grand Bazaar and the tram, with other transport options close by too. If you're after an affordable, comfortable place in central Istanbul, this is a good option.

We left before spending even one night because the place was so dirty. The furniture was loose, the bathroom smelled and was filthy, and we could hear the neighbors through the thin walls. The sheets and towels weren't clean either, so we asked for replacements as soon as we arrived, then decided to leave. When we told the receptionist why, he showed no understanding and didn't apologize. There was no refund offered, only “talk to Booking.” A miserable stay, and I hope others don't have the same experience.

The bed was comfortable, but I left the next day. The room was tiny, the toilet seat was coming off, wires hung out of the wall, and there was black mould on the ceiling. Someone in the hotel was shouting into the early hours, and the place wasn't as advertised.
