Medar Hotel

The view was great, and the manager was very nice and helpful. The staff were sweet too, especially Hasan, who went out of his way to get us everything we needed. Breakfast is available, and you can have it brought to your room. The hotel is right in the center of İstiklal street, which makes it a good choice for a first visit to Istanbul since they'll help you get what you need. I enjoyed it a lot.

The rooms have lovely, distinctive decoration, and the staff are kind. But they weren't clean, and ours was only cleaned every three days. We were also cold in the room at night. The hotel's beautiful location comes with a terrace and a great view, especially after dark. From up there you can see the city and ships moving around, and it can feel like you're at Galata Tower.

The owner was a big help when we needed to extend our stay. He'd already helped us reserve the days we wanted, then found us a nearby place for one night when he was fully booked for the extra two days. He sorted it out while we had bigger issues to deal with, and we were very grateful. The rooms are lovely and have every amenity, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the location is perfect for tourist sights. We'll stay again when we return to Istanbul.

The balcony and the view were the only good parts. The lobby was always dark, and the terrace was only open for two hours a day. Towels were left uncovered on the stairs, and the room was noisy in the morning with workers cleaning and talking. We had to call again and again for coffee, cups, towels, and other things, which was exhausting over six days. The room wasn't cleaned daily either. When we asked for cleanup, they only made the bed. The sheet had a small hole when we arrived. After it got bigger from us sleeping on it, they charged us 300 TL for an old sheet. The staff weren't friendly at all. We'll never come back.
