The only good thing was having a shopping mall nearby. For 40 euros a night, the amenities and service weren’t worth it. The same plated breakfast came every day, with no buffet, and it was unhealthy. People smoking nearby made the alfresco-style restaurant smell of smoke while we ate. The room wasn’t soundproof, so street traffic and other guests opening and closing doors could be heard. It also wasn’t very clean: there was hair from a previous guest on the pillows and bedsheets, plus yellow sweat stains. When I complained that the air conditioning and mini bar fridge weren’t working, the receptionist was rude and impolite.

We’d booked two rooms and told the hotel ahead of time, but when we arrived at 4 PM they still weren’t ready. After a 30-minute wait, we got keys to a dirty room that smelled of cigarettes and had a filthy toilet. They moved us, but the toilet in the replacement room was still unclean and the coffee cups were dirty too. We were deeply disappointed by the hygiene.

The room had no window and the AC was broken. It was cold outside, but inside felt like an oven. The staff were very rude, and when we saw the room and wanted to check out, they wouldn’t return our money. We asked for a fan and were told it would cost another $10. Worst hotel ever.

I’ve travelled a lot around Europe and stayed in plenty of hotels in Turkey, and the respiro was one of the best. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable, the breakfast was good, and the value was excellent. It’s close to the pelican mall and lots of shops, including some fantastic hairdressers. The staff were lovely too. If I’m in avcilar again, this will be my first choice for accommodation. Thanks to the staff for a lovely stay 🤗
