Root Karakoy Hotel

Breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant had an amazing view. The staff helped us figure out how to get to places we wanted to visit, and the manager was charming and helpful. We spent three nights at Root Hotel Karakoy and felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Check-in was smooth, and the receptionist treated us respectfully and professionally. Our room was cozy, comfortable, and had everything we needed, including a beautiful view. We’ll stay here again next time we’re in Istanbul.

I want to thank the reception staff for being understanding and sympathetic about my mistake. I booked two triple rooms for May 28, 2026, but when I arrived I learned I’d accidentally reserved them for June 28, 2026. The hotel had no rooms for my arrival date, so I had to find another place. I asked to change the dates and later requested a refund. The hotel said the booking was non-refundable, which was correct under the conditions, but there was still a whole month before the reserved date. The booking platform said it could refund me if the hotel approved, and it sent the request twice. The hotel rejected both requests. The platform was professional, respectful, and understanding throughout, while the management was extremely uncooperative. It seemed to care only about its own interests and showed little concern for guests facing genuine mistakes or unforeseen circumstances. I wouldn’t recommend booking here. If a problem comes up, you may not get help, as I didn’t.

I had to leave Root Hotel Karakoy Bosphorus right away and pay out of pocket for emergency accommodation. I’d booked a “comfort” room, Booking Ref: 17432710, but it hadn’t been cleaned before we arrived. The bathroom had what I considered hazardous black mold, the sheets were completely damp, electrical outlets were loose and crooked, sticking out of the wall, and essential hygiene items were missing. I saw the outlets as a serious fire and electrocution risk. At 9:00 PM, when we asked for urgent cleaning or another room, reception refused and said nothing else was vacant. They wouldn’t call the manager, saying “the manager won't answer now,” and wouldn’t provide an official printed Claim Form. Instead, they told us to write in the hotel’s WhatsApp chat. Management is now using bureaucratic excuses to block my refund through the travel agency. I’ve submitted photo and video evidence and filed a formal complaint with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism through the ALO 176 Helpline and CIMER, requesting a health and safety inspection. Save your money and find somewhere safe.

Mr. Serhat and Turan, along with the rest of the team, were friendly, welcoming, and happy to help with questions or requests. I had a great stay at Root Hotel Karaköy. The clean, comfortable, well-designed room was a relaxing place to return to after sightseeing, and the location made it easy to explore the city. The experience was better than I expected, and I’d happily stay again.
