Taksim Bosphorus Hotel

We booked a standard room for two adults because Agoda’s published policy said children aged 0-2 stay free using existing bedding, with a cot available on request. It said children aged 3-7 need a paid extra bed. Our son is 2 years and 11 months old, so he was clearly in the free age group. The room was large enough for all three of us to sleep in the existing bed, and we even offered to pay for a cot or small extra bed. There was room for one, but the hotel refused. My husband arrived earlier in the day to leave our bags, then my son and I joined him around 10-11PM after a long, tiring day. The receptionist immediately said we hadn't mentioned a child when booking and claimed the hotel required anyone with a child to book a suite, for an extra $54-55 per night. We had never heard this before, and it wasn't stated on the listing. The way he handled it made things worse. He was rude and made personal comments about my husband arriving with bags earlier, then me turning up with a woman and child, as if we were doing something suspicious. We felt like criminals for relying on the hotel's own advertised policy. We ended up waiting in the lobby close to 11PM with our exhausted toddler asleep while we spent a long time on the phone with Agoda. Agoda initially agreed that, since our child was under 3, the listed policy meant we should be fine. The hotel still insisted on its internal rule, which wasn't shown publicly. We'd been traveling for 14 days and had stayed at several hotels. None of the others had raised this issue. The hotel advertises one policy and then enforces another when guests arrive. That's misleading and deeply unfair, especially late at night with a young child, when you're left to pay more or find somewhere else. If every family needs a suite regardless of a child's age, it makes no sense for the listing to spell out different rules by age.
