Hatice Sultan Butik Apart

The trip turned into a harrowing experience for my family and kids. Because of the mismanagement by this property and Expedia, we ended up driving for nine hours and paying extra expenses and phone bills. We had booked through Expedia and received confirmation saying, “No need to reconfirm.” The day before driving from Istanbul to Kalkan with the kids, an anonymous text from a German number said the booking wasn’t confirmed. I called Expedia four times. Each time I was kept on an international roaming call for 15 to 20 minutes, and told to continue because the booking was confirmed. Expedia couldn’t reach the property owners or management, and nobody answered the phone number on the confirmation. When we arrived late in the evening, the property was locked and empty. I called Expedia again; they still said it was booked and kept me waiting another 25 minutes on a roaming call. They then said they couldn’t reach the owners or management and booked us a hotel in Antalya, four hours from Kalkan. Expedia charged more for that hotel than the price of this property, and I spent about another 1000 USD on roaming calls to Expedia while being put on hold. If anyone questions this review, I can provide supporting documents and a phone bill showing the calls to Expedia.

I’ve stayed in Kalkan’s villas several times, with friends and with family, and each trip has been worth it. The views are outstanding, and every villa has its own style and private pool. I’ve stayed in four different ones so far, and each had something special about it. This autumn I’ll be back at Hatice Sultan Villa in Kalkan, this time with my baby for the first time. We’re already looking forward to it. See you soon.

Never again. The air conditioning in the living room didn’t work, and the host Ceylani was unfriendly and disrespectful. We didn’t feel comfortable at all. Even at 6 pm, we were told to be quieter while playing in the pool. There were also loud arguments in front of the bistro. The sofa and the entrance area outside the villa smelled of urine, and the pool hygiene was extremely poor. I wouldn’t recommend this villa to anyone.

The view is the only good part, which is why I’m giving it two stars. I found the place very expensive for what it offers. The pool cleaning each day was poor, the apartment generally didn’t feel very hygienic, and the Wi-Fi was extremely slow. Kalkan is only pleasant in the evening, sitting on the terrace in the nice weather.
