The Maxim Resort

Several food options that had been advertised were closed without warning, and our room had problems with drainage and an unclean area by the toilet. The most troubling part of our honeymoon stay, though, was the bar. After we bought drinks, I was served an Aperol that looked and tasted clearly different from the original. Management later acknowledged visible differences between bottles, which left me seriously concerned about whether the product was authentic and safe. After that, I didn't feel comfortable drinking anything at the property. One bar staff member behaved unprofessionally, ignored requests to speak with a manager, and made an obscene gesture toward a guest. No reasonable goodwill was offered afterward. I was even refused a replacement for a drink I'd paid for unless I paid another €60. What should have been a relaxing honeymoon became stressful and deeply disappointing. The experience fell far below what I expected from a Hilton property and left a very poor impression.

We've stayed here before and booked again for next year. The staff were brilliant from check-in right through to our departure, always going out of their way to make sure we had what we needed and were enjoying ourselves. The bar and restaurant teams treated us like royalty. The hotel felt welcoming and was so clean, with different things to do at different times so we never got bored. It's the best hotel I've stayed in, and this was my best holiday ever.

We'd had a lovely weekend, but what happened on the last day put us off coming back. We'd booked a mountain-view room, yet the balcony faced a wall that rose all the way up and blocked the view. Because our flight was late, we asked the day before leaving about late checkout. They said it was available at €25 an hour, so we paid €125 for five extra hours, until 5:00 PM. Then, shortly before 1:00 PM the next day, we got a message asking us to come to the lobby and move rooms because ours was needed for incoming guests. The room next door was in much worse shape: no wardrobe doors, just a plastic shower curtain, and no toilet paper. Instead of spending the paid time relaxing and sunbathing, we had to pack and move our things. When we raised it at the front desk as we left, the staff saw no problem and said the charge was appropriate.

The evening entertainment was spectacular and there was loads of choice at meals. We had a brilliant week as a family with two teenagers, aged 14, and have already decided to come back next year. The staff and facilities were first class the whole time. When our room's aircon broke halfway through the holiday, we reported it at reception and it was fixed within 30 minutes.
