Sinemis Hotel

We booked three rooms for four days because the hotel is right by the sea and the online reviews sounded good. We ended up leaving after the first night. I don’t usually post comments about places we stay, but I wanted to describe what happened without adding a lot of interpretation so other people reading reviews can judge for themselves. Our check-in was supposed to be at 14:00, but we didn’t get into our room until 17:15. The cleaning staff seemed too few for a busy day, and the rooms weren’t ready on time. When we entered the first room, the second was still being cleaned. The room key is soldered onto the same ring as the electricity card, so the air conditioning and fridge stop working when you leave. We asked for another card so we could keep baby food in the fridge, but were told the fridge might break down. We took the risk of leaving the door unlocked just to keep the food from spoiling. The neighboring hotel’s balcony is also very close to our room door. Getting to the upper rooms involves stairs and then a narrow bridge-like platform where two people can’t pass at once. It didn’t seem safe in an emergency, and access would be hard for elderly people, people who are overweight, or children. Dinner is served late, and the kitchen may not have enough capacity for all the guests. Breakfast was the worst part. There were dozens of flies inside the cheese plates at the open buffet, and they tried to move them away with just a floor-standing fan. The air conditioning wasn’t on. When we raised this with the owner, they said the municipality hadn’t done pest control. There’s no designated parking, so you leave your car on the roadside, and on weekends you might not find a spot. After the asphalt ends, the last 500-600 meters are on a single-lane dirt road. If a car comes the other way, someone has to reverse to get past. We went to the bar to swap our bottled water for a cold one. We exchanged one bottle, but the bartender called out to add another water to our room. When I later asked about it, they said, "We were confused by the heat." In the evening, we also tried to settle our tab for the drinks from the day, but the bill was higher than what we had actually consumed. They said, "I don't think there's a mistake," though we knew what we’d ordered. There are several entrances, one on the restaurant side and another by the road, and no security. We didn’t worry too much about that because the place felt more like a pension. The owners generally came across as tense and irritable rather than focused on friendliness or guest satisfaction. I understand small businesses may need to save costs or work with limited staff to make a profit. Still, during the season and busiest period, they could have taken more care with cleanliness and hospitality. We don’t feel the service we received was worth what we paid for one night.
