The beach was the one real plus, only about a 3-5 minute walk away. The room’s air conditioner cost extra to use, and it felt like they were trying to get every last penny from guests. Breakfast wasn’t good, and the milk smelled bad and seemed old. I’ve stayed in cheaper guesthouses in Thailand that were much better than this place in Side, Turkey.

I ended up staying 45 nights at Derya. I’d originally booked 29, then added another 16 because I liked it so much. The family running the hotel were friendly and quick to sort out the small issues I had, and I’d happily stay again on another trip to Side. The room was spacious, with a wide, comfortable bed, and the air conditioning handled Antalya’s summer heat well. Breakfast was standard Turkish fare, while dinner was a buffet with plenty of tasty choices. WiFi could be slow at times, though you can buy a cheap SIM with 30 GB at the supermarkets nearby. The location is hard to beat. The sandy, clean, shallow beach is a two-minute walk away, with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, and it’s suitable for families with small children. There are two supermarkets next door with everything you might need. Side’s ancient city is about a 10-minute walk away, with lots of clubs for a night out.
